Purpose

To provide a structure for involvement in projects related to coastal resilience and to connect communities, students, not-for-profits, governmental entities, and professionals with the common goal of preventing long-term disaster from affecting coastal communities. Teams will work within communities to understand challenges, design solutions, build projects, and evaluate results.

Process

The focus of the CRDS work is on coastal challenges that stem from historic decisions, human settlement, sea-level rise, and necessary compliance with water quality mandates. The goal is to partner community members with interdisciplinary experts and students to develop new strategies and manage special cases that threaten coastal communities. Ultimately, the studio hopes to challenge and encourage the creation of new policies to benefit coastal communities through more sustainable land use, planning, and education.
